Self-Directed Learning, Inquiry, WIXIE, and Wonderopolis.org

Two inspiring first grade readers found a picture in their guided reading book that prompted a small, self-directed inquiry project. This was an adventure for these learners. The Common Core tells us that readers must ask and answer questions using evidence from the text. This inquiry project allowed us to honor the learning process instead of a single, finite answer. These curious first graders worked together to create individual hypotheses. They persevered using online and print resources to research possible conclusions! They celebrated and shared their process using their iPad.

Check out the WIXIE that these learners created to teach us how they came up with their conclusions! Sea Star Inquiry

Finally, the learners posted their inquiry on Wonderopolis.org! They hope the site will pick their question as their next daily inquiry question!
