Nature Lady - Praying Mantis

Today, our Nature Lady, came to talk about the Praying Mantis.  We learned lots of exciting information about this amazing creature.
  • Most praying mantids live in the tropics.
  • In the U.S., the mantids we see most often are exotic species.
  • Mantids are unique among insects in their ability to turn their heads a full 180 degrees.
  • Mantids are closely related to cockroaches and termites.
  • Female mantids sometimes eat their mates.
  • Mantids use specialized front legs to capture prey.
  • Mantids have binocular vision, but only one ear.
